The new £5M luxury DW Sports branded health club for St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel incorporates 1,800 sqm of new facilities and a car park into the very limited space behind the existing hotel and without impacting on the surrounding Green Backdrop Zone. This was a significant inward investment into Jersey’s tourism industry, conceived to provide recreational facilities for residents staying at St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel (marketed to over 300,000 DW Sports Fitness UK Club members) whilst also attracting Jersey residents as Club members.

ST. GEORGE’S PREPARATORY SCHOOL SPORTS HALL, ST. PETER
The brief was to provide a modern, multi-functional facility that could also be let to other users to generate an income for the school. The siting of this building in the historic context of La Hague Manor was crucial and a major concern to the planning authority.
The solution was a modern and simply detailed wooden box sitting quietly against a grassy bank. The structure is pushed to the outside of the box and the large columns stand like trees in the woodland setting. A soft grey roof floats over the box allowing the playing space to take advantage of natural light. The cedar cladding is left untreated to weather down to a soft silver grey, complementing the Manor House limestone.

DW Sports appointed BDK Architects for a series of projects at St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel. Our Clients first objective was to reconstruct and refurbish the external swimming pool, sunbathing terraces and Terrace Café over winter of 2009-10.
